Cost of production
Have you ever found yourself in the middle of a pay period only to find out that your product has run out or your stuff has gone bad? This has been my problem for years. The produce will go bad because I don’t finish it fast enough or we’ll be looking around for any veggies to go with our main course. (With nine people in the house, that’s a real problem!)
Aside from meat, produce is usually the most expensive item for most people. When you’re trying to make sure your family has a variety of fruits and vegetables, it can start to add cost. And when not everything is in season, the prices of off-season imports are even higher!
My family has their favorite vegetables and fruits and I’m almost always Aldi, and while they have some of the best deals on organic produce, their off-season produce isn’t very tasty. Think of fresh tomatoes from the garden and one from the store. They taste completely different.
The struggle to buy agricultural products
Buying produce can be overwhelming.
Maybe you buy the same product every time you shop, even though you’re tired of eating it. why? Because you know these tried and true purchases will work for your family.
Or maybe you’re standing there wondering what to buy, overwhelmed by the rainbow of produce in front of you.
Or maybe you’re a mom who doesn’t have time to go to the store to buy real food between work, errands, and kids’ activities. You don’t care what they eat; you want it to appear at your door like magic.
I have dealt with all of these struggles at different times in my life. I know the stress and brainpower it takes to plan meals, shop, pack all the food, and cook all the meals. On shopping nights, we usually just eat pizza.
Honestly, I’ve been through a few seasons and even going to the grocery store has made me want to consider getting my whole family to eat it fast.
Over the past year, I’ve realized that I desperately need a solution — one that can solve all of these problems without breaking the bank.
Entering an unsuitable market
A few months ago, I found Not suitable for the market through friends.
I’ve heard a lot of Misfits Market reviews and was curious, so I finally decided to sign up using her referral link to get 25% off my first box. I am very happy!
Everything was fresh, delivered in a couple of cold bags and shipped to my house in two days. There is a wide variety of items, but it looks like almost everything is something I would buy anyway. Something a little odd shape or size, but I definitely don’t mind!
I checked the price and picked the larger 18-22 lb box for a family of five. The box is usually $35, but with a 25% discount, it’s down to $26.25! Considering all of these are organic, that’s a great price! (Want to save $10 off your first box? Use code Cactus 10 at checkout $10 off your first $30 purchase! )
After my first box, I was fascinated and knew that I couldn’t get that many products in stores at this price, especially organic ones. I decided to give it a try and know we can unsubscribe if we don’t like it.
Change our favorite new products
I’m a mom who buys the same products over and over without thinking. When I got tired of it, I just stood there staring at the products hoping it would give me some answers.
when i first Does not fit into the market box Arrived, everything looked like something we would eat except the eggplant.
I’ve only eaten eggplant a few times in my life. It was sticky and gross, but I was determined to give it a try. I found this wonderful recipe for eggplant fries and it changed everything! The first night we tried them, we ran out of eggplant fries instead of chicken and my kids asked for more!
Our hands were hit. The next box has Swiss chard and more eggplant. We made fries again and we baked swiss chard with gnocchi. Ok! Again, something new was a huge hit in our home.
When our third box arrived, my 6 year old said, “Oh my gosh, I wish there was an eggplant.” To her disappointment, there was no eggplant, but we found out how much we love pomegranates!
Why we like to not fit in the market!
because Not suitable for the market, I no longer have to make a middle-income trip to the grocery store, which will cost more.
Misfits Market didn’t just save me from going to the grocery store. It also pushed me to expand my cooking skills and our kids’ taste buds.
I never thought my kids would say they wish we had eggplants. I never thought my kids would be so excited about new foods and finding recipes to try.
But here we are! My monthly grocery bill is $250 less, my family is trying new things, and my kids are learning to love new things I’ve never bought before.
For all these reasons, I became a faithful Not suitable for the market subscriber!
