Then, when you submit your 2021 tax return, you will receive a tax credit of $1,800.
If your child was born between 2004 and 2015, you will receive an additional $250 per month, and then you will receive a credit of $1,500 when you submit your 2021 tax.
What about babies born in 2021?
If your child is born in 2021, you still qualify for the full $3,600 tax credit. But since you did not list your children on your 2020 tax return, you will not automatically get monthly payments. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) stated on its website that taxpayers will “have the opportunity to update information about changes in their income, application status, or number of eligible children.”
Although the IRS has not released more detailed information, you are likely to be able to provide your child’s information and start receiving monthly payments. Otherwise, when you file your taxes, you will have to wait and get the full credit of $3,600.
