Soul Chicken Soup is accepting stories and poems from upcoming books. If you are selected, you will receive a check for $200.
Back in the early 1990s, two popular inspirational speakers put together a book full of inspirational stories.
“They call it chicken soup for the soul because they want it to soothe and provide comfort, just like the meal their grandmother cooked,” the company’s website states.
The company eventually expanded its selection and has since published more than 250 books in the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” series, with more than 500 million copies sold worldwide. Books focus on specific topics such as faith, raising children and cats.
How to make chicken soup for soul submission

If you have a personal experience that fits one of these topics to share, then you need to know the following.
Soul Story Chicken Soup Guide
your story should:
- Write in the first person.
- Become what happens to you or someone you know. If you are ghostwriting a story for someone else, that person’s name should be listed as the author (they can thank you for your help in the resume section).
- There is a clear beginning, middle and end.
- Create emotion in the reader.
- From the heart.
- No more than 1,200 words.
- Not a biography, term essay, essay, letter, or diary entry.
- Don’t talk about politics or anything controversial.
The submitted story must be true. The publisher does not accept creative writing articles or fictional materials.
Soul Poetry Chicken Soup Guide
The guidelines for poem submissions are slightly looser. Your poem should:
- Tell a story to help readers understand your experience, but in the form of poetry.
- Don’t focus on rhyming or sound like greeting cards.
Soul Chicken Soup only accepts stories and poems that have not been published before.
How to submit your entry
Submitting your entry is easy.Simply Fill out this online form, Add your story or poem to the correct field, and click “Submit.”
After submitting the form, you will see a confirmation message on the screen indicating that the publisher has received your entry. Everything here is its!
Well, not exactly. There is one more thing to do, which may be the most difficult.
Write your entry in a computer application such as Google Docs, which will automatically save your work as you proceed, and then paste it into the submission form to avoid losing your information when the browser exits unexpectedly document.
It may take a long time for the publisher to respond to you. The website explains: “We receive thousands of submissions for each book, and we only have room for 101 books, so please don’t take our silence to heart!”
If your story or poem is selected, you will receive an email requesting your explicit consent to publish your work.
One month after publication, you will receive 10 copies of the book and a check for $200.
