6 Inexpensive Gym Memberships That Can Help You Work Out Less

There is no reason.

Staying in shape requires making decisions and committing to work. It also requires investment — time, and often money.

Choosing a gym can be a very personal decision. Location may be important to you. You probably want a gym that you pass by on your normal commute so you’re not forced to leave.

You probably want a large gym where you are one of many people and the attention is not on you. Or conversely, you might thrive in smaller environments where you can develop relationships with trainers and other members.

Regardless of your preferences, cost is also an important factor in determining the best gym membership for you. To help make your decision easier, we’ve compiled information on six national fitness chains with cheap gym memberships so you can compare availability, cost, and features.

What to look for when buying a cheap gym membership

Joining a gym is an ongoing financial commitment. You can sign up during a promotion that promises no entry fee or a free first month, but you must budget for the cost during your membership.

It’s not uncommon for gym memberships to exceed $50 a month — though we’ve tried to highlight more affordable gym memberships below. Additionally, many gyms charge an annual fee and a membership fee.

Depending on your membership, you may be required to pay for additional benefits such as certain group fitness classes, personal trainer time, massages or tanning bed classes.

Before signing a contract, check to see if your membership locks you in for a few months. If you choose to terminate your membership before the agreed period, you may be fined.

Many gyms offer free trials, so be sure to take advantage of these offers to better understand the facility before signing up. Or, if you know someone who is already a member, they might be able to get a visitor pass for you.
