After the death of iconic Bollywood veteran Dilip Kumar at the age of 98, actors, politicians, sports figures and even an animal rights organization in India and Pakistan expressed their condolences.
“Dilip Kumar…will be remembered as a movie legend,” Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Twitter shortly after the death of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
“He is fortunate to have unparalleled brilliance, so generations of people have been fascinated by it. His death is a loss to our cultural world.”
Indian President Ram Nath Kovind said: “Dilip Kumar summed up India’s emerging history. The charm of this dramatist transcends all boundaries, and he is loved throughout the subcontinent. With him The death of an era is over.”
Kovind added that Kumar will “live in the center of India forever.”

India’s main opposition politician Rahul Gandhi stated that Kumar’s “extraordinary contribution to Indian cinema will be remembered for generations”.

Bollywood’s most popular actor Amitab Bachchan called Kumar his “idol” and said on Twitter: “An epic era has begun… it will never happen again. “

Former Pakistani cricket team leader Shahid Afridi said his death was a “huge loss” for his fans in Pakistan, Mumbai and “global”.

Animal rights pressure organization PETA India also expressed its condolences, saying that “animals all over the world have lost a good friend.”
The organization said that Kumar helped it issue a ban on elephants from entering Mumbai, “avoid violence and cruelty, and ensure the safety of the human residents of Mumbai.”
