MILAN (Reuters)-UniCredit said on Friday that it is building a new technology center in Naples as part of its investment strategy in southern Italy, which is plagued by high unemployment and slow economic growth.

The move is the second day after the Italian-French car manufacturer Stellattis announced that it will build a large battery factory in the southern city of Termoli.

UniCredit said it will hire 100 new employees and relocate 100 employees from Naples or southern Italy to operate a new hub where open innovation and technology development activities will be held.

It also stated that it will also strengthen its Naples branch, which is committed to providing remote assistance and advice to customers, and expand its digital banking activities in the city.

UniCredit Chairman and former Italian Minister of Economy, Pier Carlo Padoan (Pier Carlo Padoan) said in a statement: “In a region still characterized by high youth and female unemployment rates. , We hope to establish a new hub in Naples.

In a separate statement, the union representing UniCredit Italian workers stated that the new job is the “first encouraging result” of negotiations with lenders.

They said that union representatives will meet with bank management on July 13 to discuss retail banking issues.
