WASHINGTON (Reuters)-A White House official told Reuters on Wednesday that the Biden administration will not immediately remove any international travel restrictions, even though it faces increasing pressure from U.S. business groups and lawmakers.
In June, the government established an inter-agency working group with the European Union, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Mexico to study how to lift restrictions and eventually resume travel.
The White House official told Reuters: “Although these groups have met many times, further discussions are needed before we announce any next steps to reopen travel with any country.”
“Like many other countries, we have made great progress in domestic vaccination work, but we want to ensure that we proceed with caution and can sustainably reopen international travel while safe.”
