Antananarivo (Reuters)-The Attorney General said that the Malagasy authorities arrested several people on Tuesday, including foreign citizens, on suspicion of plotting to kill the president.
Andry Rajoelina was sworn in as the president of the Indian Ocean island nation in 2019. He was previously sworn in after a tough election and a challenge from a rival Constitutional Court.
The Attorney General said in a statement: “Based on the evidence we have, these people have developed a plan to eliminate and eliminate some people, including the head of state.”
It added that the investigation is ongoing and no more details can be disclosed.
The scope of the conspiracy, or the extent to which it has progressed, is currently unclear.
The statement did not specify the nationality of the foreigner.
