LOS ANGELES (Reuters)-Singer Britney Spears won the right to choose her own lawyer on Wednesday to help her end her 13 years of supervision and tearfully pleaded with the court to immediately remove her father from the role of controlling her business affairs. Expelled.
Her father, Jamie Spears, established this regulatory agency in 2008 when his daughter was suffering from a mental illness, so he has always been an important figure in the regulatory agency. He is currently the sole person in charge of her $60 million estate.
“You let my dad ruin my life,” Spears told the Los Angeles judge over the phone. “I must get rid of my father and accuse him of abusing supervision,” she added.
On Wednesday, 39-year-old Spears spoke for about 10 minutes, saying that she had been “very scared of my dad.” She said that in the past 13 years, she was tired of multiple psychological assessments and hoped to end supervision without other assessments.
“I’m not a perfect person… but their goal is to make me feel like I’m crazy,” Spears said. The details of Spears’ mental health problems have never been publicly disclosed.
This is the second time Spears has spoken publicly in court. Last month, she called this legal arrangement insulting and stupid in a 20-minute public speech.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penney on Wednesday approved former federal prosecutor Matthew Rosengart to move forward on behalf of Spears. The singer’s court-appointed lawyer resigned last week.
Rosengart, who once represented Hollywood stars Sean Penn and Steven Spielberg, also called on Jamie Spears to step down.
“It doesn’t work. We know this,” Rosengart said. His first job may be to submit an official document requesting the termination of supervision.
In June, the pop star complained about not being able to get married or have more children, and said that she was forced to take medicine against her wishes.
Outside the court, dozens of fans held a rally, chanting “Britney Liberty” and calling for the end of supervision.A smaller rally was held near the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.
