Morgan Stanley CEO James Gorman sent a strong message to New York employees who did not want to return to the office, saying that if they feel comfortable eating out in New York, they should feel safe working at the bank’s headquarters.
Gorman said at a financial services conference organized by Morgan Stanley on Monday: “If you can enter a restaurant in New York City, you can enter the office. We hope you are in the office.”
Gorman said the bank has not yet started “requiring” employees to go to work, which is different from Goldman Sachs asking its employees to return to the office on Monday. However, Gorman said that he had sent a “very directional” message that he hoped the employees at 1585 Broadway would return to their desks.
“[By] On Labor Day, if people do not find a way into the office, I will be very disappointed, and then we will have different types of conversations,” Gorman added, referring to the US public holiday on September 6.
Gorman Said that the bank has learned that it can operate “more flexibly” during the coronavirus pandemic. But he said he is pessimistic about employees who don’t work in the office often, especially those who want to work remotely in locations outside of the state such as Florida or Colorado.
“If you want to get a salary in New York, you work in New York,” he added.
In March last year, Gorman was diagnosed with this virus and made a full HP resurrection. Since July 2020, he started to work and gradually increased the number of days in the office.
He said: “My leadership style is very cautious.” “Starting in July, one day a week… Now I have four days.”
However, Gorman said that employees in areas with high infection rates such as India are not expected to report to the office.

He said that returning to the office is particularly important for junior employees who are undergoing job training. “[The office is] Where do we teach, where do our interns study. This is how we cultivate people. Here, you can build all the soft leads related to having a successful career, not just a Zoom demo. “
Gorman said that more than 90% of Morgan Stanley’s employees already working in its offices are now vaccinated, adding that he expects this percentage to increase to 98%. The bank recently partnered with a healthcare provider to provide vaccination in its office.
Morgan Stanley said that unlike Goldman Sachs, disclosure of vaccine status will be voluntary. Authorized Its employees disclose whether they have received jabs.
