SEEON-SEEBRUCK, Germany (Reuters)-The head of the industry association GDV said on Thursday that this year the German insurance industry may face the highest claims for storms, floods, heavy rain and hail since 2013.

He said that next week should be able to make preliminary estimates of the damage caused by rain and floods that killed at least 19 people in Germany.

Eight years ago, property and casualties and auto insurance companies claimed 9.3 billion euros ($11 billion) for losses caused by natural disasters in Germany. The second most expensive year since then was 2017, with a claim amount of slightly more than 3 billion euros.
