Governor Andrew Cuomo quoted data from Johns Hopkins University as saying that New York State had the lowest 7-day average Covid-19 positive rate at 0.44%.
On Sunday, the state health department said that 383 new positive cases had been identified from 110,437 tests — a rate of only 0.35%.
“We are beating Covid-19 statewide, and New York’s 7-day average positive rate is the lowest in the country, but more vaccinations are needed to get us across the finish line,” Cuomo said.
He added that the state plans to provide “exciting rewards” for vaccination.
Cuomo said that more than two-thirds of New York adults — 67.2% — now have at least one dose of the vaccine, and 60% have received the vaccine.
“I encourage all eligible people who have not yet been vaccinated to take advantage of a $20 free lottery ticket.”
The State University of New York system and the City University of New York also provide scholarships.
The number of new coronavirus cases in the United States is still close to the lowest level since the beginning of the pandemic. This encouraging decline has prompted some states to scale back their daily reporting of the Covid-19 trend.
Since the surge in winter, the number of infections, hospitalizations and deaths related to Covid-19 has dropped sharply, which is affected by the vaccination program that began in December.
