(Reuters)-Casino operator Crown Resorts Limited said on Monday that Western Australia has extended the Royal Commission’s investigation into its Perth casino until March 2022.
The move comes after the state of Victoria said last month that it would provide additional time and funding to a separate Royal Commission, which is investigating Crown’s operations in the state to allow it to investigate broader issues.
After the media accused the company (one-third owned by billionaire James Parker) of being involved in money laundering, the ongoing investigation of Crown is to assess its suitability for holding gambling licenses in various cities in Australia.
Western Australia was initially expected to release its final report in mid-November, but it will now be submitted on March 4, 2022.
“The state government believes that if the Perth Casino Royal Commission has enough time to prepare the final report, then the public interest will be best served,” said Western Australia Governor Mark McGowan (Mark McGowan).
The Royal Commission is Australia’s most powerful public investigative agency and has the power to force witnesses to appear in court.
