Family called Banat “assassinated”
However, Banat’s family rejected the findings of the Commission of Inquiry and stated that the agency did not talk to any family members or witnesses with Banat when he was arrested and attacked, nor did he hear their testimony.
According to a preliminary autopsy, Banat was beaten on the head, chest, neck, legs and hands. The time from arrest to death was less than an hour.
Banat’s family accused the Palestinian Authority security forces of assassinating him.
On Monday, Banat’s father called for a public trial of the security forces involved in the arrest of his son.
Khalil Banat said at a press conference: “Nizal was dragged from the bed and then killed. All the troops who arrested and murdered him under the cover of darkness should undergo a public trial.”
The occupied West Bank witnessed several demonstrations condemning Banat’s death and demanding the resignation of Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.
