Seattle Pride charges whites $50 in “compensation” fees

Seattle’s Pride Program charges white people a “compensation fee” of up to $50. The event will be held this Saturday at Jimi Hendrix Park in Seattle and will be hosted by black and brown members of the LGBT community.

The organizers stated that this special pride event is to enhance their “voice, narrative and contribution”, according to New York Post. “Everyone can participate for free, but this is a transgender event centered on blacks and brown queers,” the organizer wrote on the event page. However, the city’s Human Rights Commission is supporting the organizers of the event.

“Transgender blacks and queer people are among the most marginalized and persecuted people in the LGBTQIA2S+ community,” the committee wrote in a letter posted to Twitter. “They often face not only the shame from the cis-heterosexual community, but also the shame of the entire queer community. In order to allow the Black Queer community to participate in the event for free, the organizers of this event are offering a rare courtesy; A free and safe space to express happiness and share stories [sic] And in the community. “
