Earlier this week, Osaka Naomi announced on social media that for mental health reasons, she would not participate in any press conferences during the French Open. The statement continued: “We want to emphasize that the rules are in place to ensure that all players are treated exactly the same, regardless of their height, beliefs or achievements. As a sport, there is nothing better than ensuring that no player is better than another. It’s more important to have an unfair advantage. Unfortunately, in this case, if a player refuses to take the time to participate in media promises, and everyone else keeps their promises.”
After receiving the news of the $15,000 fine, he said: “Anger is a lack of understanding. Changes are uncomfortable.”
