TSR Health: “We are outside!” After mosquitoes carrying viruses that cause paralysis and death are found in at least six states in the United States, it may soon become “we are inside.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, these mosquitoes tested positive for West Nile Virus, which is the main cause of mosquito-borne diseases in the United States. This disease usually peaks at this time of the year, Inside story report.
New York is the latest state to report infected mosquitoes in recent weeks. Rockland County reported in a press release that there are two groups of mosquitoes carrying the virus in Orangetown and Clarkstown.
The other states where mosquitoes were found were Massachusetts, Arizona, Arkansas, Illinois, and Iowa.
According to the CDC, although Massachusetts has no known human cases, other states have seen one or two people infected with the virus this summer.

These insects are the spreaders of many dangerous diseases, including malaria, dengue fever, and Zika virus.
Most people infected with West Nile virus do not even know that they are sick, and the virus rarely spreads from person to person. Insider said that about one in five people infected with West Nile will have fever and flu-like symptoms such as headache, body aches, vomiting, diarrhea or rash.
Even smaller proportions can develop into serious diseases that can lead to paralysis or death.
Two people in Arizona and three people in Arkansas, Illinois, and Iowa have all experienced such severe cases. In Arkansas, the infected person died.
Last year, 39 U.S. states reported West Nile virus cases. Of the reported cases, 505 were severe or neuroinvasive, and 52 passed.
