As the conflict in Afghanistan continues, Airbnb announced that they have pledged to provide temporary free housing for 20,000 people Afghan Refugees.According to CNN, The company’s chief executive officer Brian Chesky (Brian Chesky) said that the plan will start immediately and Airbnb will pay for the accommodation. Brian shared the good news in a series of tweets on Twitter.
“The displacement and resettlement of Afghan refugees in the United States and elsewhere is one of the greatest humanitarian crises of our time. We feel obligated to stand up,” he wrote on Twitter. This work has not stopped because of Airbnb. Brian also said that Airbnb will work closely with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and its non-profit organization Airbnb.org, which focuses on providing housing for people in need after natural disasters and other crises. Although Airbnb provides housing solutions, it is not clear how long they will provide refugees for their stay. As the number of Afghan refugees trying to leave the country increases, some are preparing to travel to the United States.
According to Fox 4Officials expect that 25,000 refugees will arrive at four military facilities, where they will receive the COVID-19 vaccine before arriving at their new homes. One of the bases will be Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. According to reports, the base will welcome American civilians, green card holders, Afghans who have served in the US military and hold special immigrant visas, and another group known as vulnerable Afghans. Those who have not completed the steps required to obtain a special immigrant visa will also be included.
At the base, refugees will receive comprehensive medical examinations, mental health support, and travel assistance. Officials are working hard to achieve this goal before President Joe Biden’s August 31 evacuation deadline. Russell Smith of the Texas Refugee Services Center confirmed that at least 100 refugees have arrived in El Paso.
