Apia: Akonnor’s belief in family players is good for Ghana (Afcon)

Former Ghanaian captain Stephen Appiah believes that adding family players to the Black Star team for the upcoming African Cup of Nations will increase the team’s chances.

Although the former coach of Ghana has been mostly neglected in the local league recently, the current boss CK Akonnor has opened up a completely different path.

In his most recent announcement of the team that participated in the international friendly against Morocco and Côte d’Ivoire on June 8th and 12th, as many as eight local players advanced to the final.

When asked if he thinks Akonno’s belief in family players indicates good development, Apia said: “I think it’s because this season, the league looks interesting and the competition is very fierce.” Citi Sports report.

“A few years ago, there would be a 12-year difference between the top two companies, but this time it’s not the case.

“And all teams have about three to four outstanding players, and at some point, we didn’t see that.

“This means they are doing well and our league is going well.”

Asante Kotoko duo Razak Abalora and Ismail Abdul Ganiyu, Ibrahim Danrad of King Faisal, Lygon City defender Joseph Ajay, Medeama midfielder Raded Nortey, Gladson Awako (Gladson Awako) of the Grand Olympics and Felemon Baffour of Dream Football Club man Both were recruited for the upcoming friendship.

Steadfast FC’s 17-year-old star Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, who plays in the second line of Ghana, has also been summoned. This is the second time he has been invited to a senior position in a row.

“Since I got this job [in January last year]”I said I want to give the locals a chance,” Arkonor said after handing over the first game to five local players in the international competition in South Africa, Sao Tome and Principe in March.

“When was the last time you saw a lot of locals? We are moving from one end to the other. I think we saw a lot today and in the last game against South Africa, which is very helpful.

“It is up to them to do well and improve, because we are looking for the best.”

The Afcon Championship, which was originally scheduled to be held this year, has been postponed until January 9th to February 6th next year.
