Liverpool team-mates Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane – two of African football’s leading strikers – will face off as continental champions.
Egypt won 3-1 on penalties against Cameroon in the African Cup of Nations semi-final on Thursday, with Salah not even having a chance to take a penalty for Egypt after the hosts failed to score three points from the field.
An error from Clinton Njj ensured Egypt’s progress after the seven-time African champions won their first three penalties. Goalkeeper Mohamed Abou Gabal, who has Gabaski’s name on the back of his shirt, also made two saves for Egypt.
The game ended 0-0 after the 120th minute, with the biggest flashpoint coming towards the end when Egypt coach Carlos Queiroz was sent off. He will now be banned from Sunday’s final against Senegal.

It was the first game to be played at the Orembe Stadium in Yaounde since Cameroon’s last-16 tie against Comoros last Monday saw eight fans die in a crush.
The same venue will host the final on Sunday, when Mane’s Senegal will seek its first African title after losing the final final of 2019 to Algeria. Senegal should be fresher after a day off and a 90-minute win over Burkina Faso on Wednesday.
The game has been played mid-season in Europe, frustrating Europe’s leading clubs such as Liverpool, who lack key players like Salah and Mane.
