Insider: I think the holiday should be extended beyond the family. Here, I shared some thoughts on how to donate to Christmas charity, including 4 ways my own family tried to share the spirit of Christmas.
When it comes to donating during the holiday season, we naturally think about how we can do something for our loved ones. We have considered a perfect gift that will make our children jump for joy on Christmas morning, or a personalized gift that will leave mothers with tears.
Also, you will be surprised when you see the reaction on the face of the person you are helping. After all, this is the season of dedication.
However, gifts should not stop at each other’s gifts. Donation is more than just buying a new bicycle for the child. It should extend beyond the family.
Thousands of people need help throughout the year. As the holidays approach, this number tends to increase. Moreover, with the trend of unemployment this year, the number of families in trouble is even more.
Make charity part of the family holiday tradition
Dedication to others is what our family has always done. This is very important. Without it, it would not be a holiday. Moreover, the way we do this does not involve eating in the soup kitchen-that is because we want our donations to have a more lasting impact.
When you watch these vacation movies, when people are helping and donating money, they will always enter the kitchen to provide food. Everything is fine, but there are many needs beyond Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner.
Charity includes helping people in need. I had a meal today, but the socks they wore throughout the winter kept their feet warm.
We did a few things to incorporate our dedication to others into our holiday.
Adopt a family at Christmas
We have been members of the church for more than 15 years. When a new opportunity arises, we always give and help, but we are excited, and that is to support the family.
This moved me very much, because someone adopted our family when I was young. One day, food and gifts arrived at our front desk with just a note. We still don’t know who the mysterious Santa Claus is, but we never forget the gratitude that the charity gift brings us.
Therefore, when our church offered the same volunteer opportunities to my family, I had to sign up. Now, this is one of our favorite traditions!
We shop and get what another family needs. I ask my children to help me decide how to get them on the list. When we delivered the goods shortly before Christmas, they were as excited as I was.
Angel tree/family donation tree to help others
In the church, we also use the angel tree as part of the Christmas decoration. But instead of letting my husband and I choose the children to help, let our children do it.
We told them to find young people who looked like them in a way. One year, my son found a boy who wanted a guitar as a Christmas gift. He is also passionate about this instrument!
We went to the store and found the gift he wanted to give. Moreover, our son did not pay for himself, but also increased some of his own money.
When it was time to give up our Christmas donation, he took his guitar with him. He put the guitar and other gifts under the Christmas tree with a big smile on his face.
He told us that he was very excited when he got his first guitar and hoped that this little boy would be happy too.
One dollar adds to Christmas donations here and there
We are big cash users. We will try our best to pay all expenses in cash. This came in handy during the holidays.
When we walk into a store with a bell, we donate money. Every. single. time.
I believe that if I have money to spend in that store, I can save someone a dollar. It may not sound like much, but it all adds up.
When I see it, I never give up. once.
We pray
It’s no secret that my family has firm beliefs. And, although we try our best to help donate, we also pray.
We pray for those who have suffered this year. We pray for peace for anyone who is struggling. We demand security for people in terrorist situations.
Prayer is not the only You can think about charity in non-monetary ways. Volunteer service is another way to provide help to those in need.
Charity activities are part of our activities throughout the year, but during the holidays we will do more to help others. I can’t imagine celebrating without helping others.
Other ways to integrate philanthropy into family Christmas
Instead of giving someone a physical gift, tell them that you want to donate in their name to their favorite non-profit organization. This is an excellent alternative Christmas gift that can benefit both the recipient and her favorite charity. (You can also write off tax donations.)
Buy extra groceries or grocery store gift cards and put them in your local food bank. Your family can even set up a small fundraising event near you; ask neighbors to donate canned food. You can collect them all and send them down in one go.
Consider buying Christmas gifts at a charity shop. For example, you can buy unique handicrafts, and the purchase of these handicrafts is helpful to the third world artists who made them. These are great gift ideas and very useful.
You can spread the cheers of Christmas through charitable donations
Try some Christmas charity activities this year. It doesn’t have to be a lot. Every bit can help those in need, and you will be happy to see your donation cheer for your holiday.
