U.S. women’s national team goalkeeper Alyssa Nach said Monday that she has fully recovered from a right knee injury she suffered during the Tokyo Olympics and is returning with a new appreciation for the sometimes brutal sport.

In a 1-0 semifinal loss to Canada, the veteran collided with a teammate while trying to intercept a pass, resulting in a lengthy recovery from the injury.

“I’m 100 percent. There are no limits. I’m not holding back,” she told reporters at training camp in Austin, Texas.

“So now it’s just getting back up to speed. It’s been a long recovery process. I’m just happy to be back on the team and put my head down and get back to work.”

Naeher made several exciting saves in the quarter-final win over Holland, but she had to watch from the sidelines as her team beat Australia in the bronze medal match.

She said the injury taught her to appreciate the good times, which she now knows can be fleeting.

“The game can be a bit brutal, going from such a high level to such a low level quickly,” she said.

“So for me, don’t take anything for granted. You never know when an injury is going to come, so enjoy every part of it. Enjoy every training session, every session, every physical therapy session.”

She added that a group of swimmers placed her under their protection to help her stay healthy during the suspension after doctors told her to avoid the course.

“I am grateful to the people who have helped me over the past six months,” she said.

“Those who helped me get back to me.”
