It was a thankful day for Alana King, 26, as she made her Australian Women’s debut in the first T20I match against England at the Adelaide Oval. In the 2021-22 Women’s Big Boxing League (WBBL), she is overweight for a call-up to the national white ball competition.
Leg spinners have 16 wickets from 13 WBBL games and are joint top wicketkeeper Perth Heat along with Heather Graham and Lilly Mills. Kim hardly gave the hitters much work as she pitched with an incredible 5.82 economy. The national selectors found it hard to ignore her and rewarded her with the highest honor.

The spinner beat compatriot Amanda Jade Wellington on the way to the national team. Notably, Wellington was the leading wicket-taker in previous WBBL editions, taking 22 wickets from 16 games. She had a big smile on her face as she donned her virgin hat on Thursday, January 20.

Kim didn’t disappoint in the game at all, as she finished with an impressive 4-0-28-1 on a decent batting belt. She got a precious wicket from Tammy Beaumont, who hit 30 for 82 in 10.1 overs. After an unbeaten 91 from Tahlia McGrath, the Australian went on to win the match by nine wickets with three overs remaining.
Interestingly, King is of Anglo-Indian descent as her father Leroy King immigrated to Chennai from Melbourne in 1984. Early in Melbourne, King’s father had to go to jail for an identity error. Back in 2019, Kim also spoke about the racism she had to experience because of her “different skin color.”

As far as her cricketing career goes, she will now rub shoulders with Jess Jonassen, the main weapon in the Australian spin division.Already with Beth Mooney, Chamari Athapaththu and Sophie Devine, Kim has gained considerable experience playing top level cricket.
