India kicked off the ICC U-19 World Cup campaign with a 45-run win over South Africa in Georgetown, Guyana, on Saturday, riding Yash Dhull and his bowlers.
When asked to bat first, India lost its opener before a 71-run partnership between skipper Dhull (82, 100b, 11×4) and Nishant Sidhu (27, 25b, 5×4) stabilized the boat. After Rashid was sacked in the 20th inning, Toure led the Indians’ innings until he was knocked out in the 39th. The wickets continued to drop frequently. Kaushal Tambe’s quick-fire 35 (44b, 5×4) completed the game with 232 runs for India in the 47th inning.

South Africa was eliminated in the 46th round with a score of 187. Only four hitters scored in double figures, with No. 3 Dewald Brevis leading the way with 65 (99b, 6×4, 2×6). Left-arm spinners Vicky Ostwal (5-for-28) and Raj Bawa (4-for-47) were India’s leading wickets.
India next play Ireland on Wednesday 19 January, while South Africa take on Uganda on Tuesday 18 January.
