‘Parking at your own risk!!’; Odean Smith of West Indies soils car standing outside Sabina Park

West Indies pacer Odean Smith shows his batting prowess in first ODI of three-game series Ireland Saturday (January 9).

In a competitive low-scoring game, Smith made 18 brilliant cameos on just eight balls. The No. 9 right-hander hit his willows with a key quick hit and helped his team push past 260.

West Indies finished with 269 points, albeit 62/4 at one stage, and eventually won the game by 24 points to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Odean Smith will be happy to contribute to the team’s victory with bat and ball as he also took 2 wickets for 26 runs during the Irish chase.

But something really funny and interesting happened in the first half when Smith was smashing his willows trying to run as much as he could in the closing game. The aggressive low-order bat eventually crashed Sheldon Cottrell’s car outside Sabina Park at maximum speed.

Odean Smith dented the car’s roof next to the fence separating the stadium’s parking lot and the stands with grass embankments.

The incident occurred in the 48th inning of the West Indies. A third throw from left-arm pacer Joshua Little saw him overshoot a range outside the stump. Waiting for such a delivery to unleash his fury, Smith gave it a full mount and drove the ball through the deep extra coverage area.

But not only did the ball go over the boundary ropes, it also flew over the fence separating the grass and the stadium’s parking lot, hitting a motionless car and smashing the roof.

Interestingly, the duo were confused when they saw the ball hit the roof, while commentators Niall O’Brien and Darren Sammy found the funny side of things.
