The Sri Lanka Cricket Committee said on Tuesday that former Pacer Ratnayake had been appointed as the interim coach for Sri Lanka before the series against Zimbabwe at home.
“The Sri Lanka Cricket team hopes to announce the appointment of Rumesh Ratnayake as the interim coach of the national team for the upcoming Zimbabwe trip to Sri Lanka,” the SLC said in a statement.
The 58-year-old Ratnayake participated in 23 tests and 70 ODIs during his career from 1982 to 1993, and currently works as a fast bowling coach at the High Performance Center.

He will succeed Mickey Arthur, who left in November last year.
Ruvin Peiris, who had served as a batting coach at the High Performance Center, was also temporarily arranged to cooperate with the senior national team of the Zimbabwe national team.
Former captain Mahela Jayawardena is a consultant coach of the “national team”. He will travel to the West Indies on January 9th to join the U-19 team already in the Caribbean and participate in the ICC U19 men Cricket World Cup.
“He will be with the U19 team during the World Cup,” SLC said.
