Senegal says Watford refuses to let Ismailasal participate in the National Cup

The Senegal Football Federation said on Sunday that Senegal accused Watford of refusing to release Ismaila Sal in this month’s African Cup of Nations final and will seek FIFA’s intervention.

“FSF responded immediately, confirming the player’s call and the club’s obligation to release the player before January 3rd,” it continued.

It added that if “Watford insists on deliberately refusing to release the player”, Senegal will discuss the matter with FIFA.

“FSF deeply condemns Watford’s disrespectful, harmful and discriminatory behavior, and they did their best to prevent a player from playing with his national team.

Africa, its football and its football players deserve the same respect as other continents, leagues and players. The FSF will take all necessary actions to ensure that the basic rights of its football players to play for the country are respected,” it added.

Watford did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The Premier League struggler has refused to allow Nigerian striker Emmanuel Dennis to join his country, saying that the Nigeria Football Association did not call him in time and missed the deadline to notify the club of his choice.
