Former England batsman Jeffrey Boycott said on Tuesday that after his team’s modest surrender in Melbourne, Joe Root must resign as captain of the England team to ensure Australia retains the ashes.
Australia won by one game and 14 times in the third test, which gave the hosts a 3-0 lead in the series.
The England team was severely criticized after surrendering in the second game. Former captain Ian Bothham said he was “embarrassed” to see them lose the ashes in just 12 days of cricket test.

“Australia is leading 3-0 and the ashes are gone, please stop saying that Australia is not much better than us? I don’t mind that he lives in Cuckoo Land, but don’t try to deceive us anymore,” Boycott wrote in his column Wrote in Telegraph.
“If he really believes what he said, then maybe it’s time for him to give up the captain of the England cricket team. The facts are facing all of us, except Joe doesn’t want to see it. England can’t hit the ball. Our bowling is very ordinary.”
Boycott said many of Root’s decisions were wrong, such as first hitting the ball on a court suitable for seamen in Gabba and ignoring James Anderson and Stuart Broad, who had more than 1,100 test wickets between them.

“Being the captain of England is the dream of every cricket player. Joe has played 59 test matches to shape and establish his authority on this group of players. He has tested Australia 13 times and only has 2 wins and 9 losses,” Boycott said.
“No one wants to give up the captain position, but it’s not about Joe — it’s about making players perform better.”
