The Australian cricket team said Australian captain Pat Cummins has been excluded from the second ashes test in Adelaide late on Thursday after being identified as a close contact of the COVID-19 case.
The board of directors stated that Cummins needs to quarantine for 7 days and hopes to participate in the third test in Melbourne from December 26.

Cricket Australia confirmed media reports that the fast bowler ate at a restaurant in Adelaide on Wednesday night, where a positive case of COVID-19 was found.
“(He) did not violate any biosafety protocol,” CA said in a statement.
“As soon as he became aware of the situation, he was quarantined and a PCR test was conducted thereafter and the result was negative.
“SA Health has confirmed that Cummins is a close contact and will be required to quarantine for 7 days.”
Cummins, the world’s number one bowler, led Australia to defeat England with nine wickets in the Brisbane Opener. This was his first game as a captain.
His exclusion from the Adelaide Test is a blow to Australia as they hope to lead 2-0 in the five test series.
Cricket Australia stated that bowler Mitchell Starc and spinner Nathan Lyon ate at the same restaurant as Cummins, but at different tables outdoors.

They are considered to be in casual contact and can play freely.
Deputy Captain Steve Smith will replace Cummins as captain, regaining the position nearly four years after losing that position due to his involvement in the 2018 Newlands ball tampering scandal.
Travis Head will serve as the deputy captain, and Michael Neser, an uncapped pacemaker, will replace Cummins on the offense.
CA said: “Understandably, Cummins is very disappointed in not being able to serve as the captain of Australia in the Adelaide Day and Night Test. This is understandable.”
