Josh Hazlewood was excluded from Adelaide’s second ashes test after being injured in nine games in which Australia beat England in Brisbane.
The Australian Cricket Team (CA) said in a statement that Hazlewood had returned to Sydney on Sunday afternoon for further evaluation and rehabilitation, and will “in due course” determine whether he is suitable for the Boxing Day test in Melbourne.
On Monday morning, Australia will send a 14-man team to Adelaide, including fast bowlers Michael Neser and Jay Richardson, and leg spinner Mitchell S Mitchell Swepson.
CA said the selectors will select a team for the Melbourne and Sydney tests after the Adelaide game.
At the same time, England coach Chris Silverwood hinted that James Anderson and Stuart Broad may return to the team.
The decision to ignore the two leading ticket inspectors in the country’s history in The Gabba’s series opener proved to be divided, and people’s concerns about Anderson’s game acumen and Broad were ignored.
