The Premier League club said on Wednesday that West Ham midfielder Declan Rice had withdrawn from England due to illness before the World Cup qualifiers against Albania and San Marino.
England ranked first in eight games with 20 points (three points ahead of Poland). They played against Albania on Friday before heading to San Marino on Monday to end their qualifiers.
The club said in a statement: “West Ham United can confirm that Declan Rice returned to the club from an international mission in England due to illness, adding that the illness has nothing to do with COVID-19.”

“He will now recover and then return to training in Rush Green before the Hammers Premier League game at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, November 20.”
England said they would not look for a replacement for the 22-year-old, but added that midfielder Mason Mount and left back Luke Shaw have not joined the team due to dental surgery and concussion, respectively.
Rice has made 27 appearances in the national team, and since his debut in 2019, he has been a frequent visitor to head coach Gareth Southgate. He participated in all seven matches of England in Euro 2020, but they lost to Italy in the final.
