The Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF) said on Tuesday that former Argentina and Colombia coach Jose Pekerman has been appointed as the head coach of Venezuela.
Venezuela is the only South American country that has never made it to the World Cup finals. In 14 games, with 7 points, Venezuela ranks bottom of the 10 team qualifiers.
Venezuela is currently 10 points behind fourth-place Colombia and fifth-place Peru.
Since the top four teams automatically qualify for Qatar, Pekerman has almost no chance to bring his new accusations to Qatar’s 2022 final, but he said he comes here “hopefully”.
“I know I came to the right place,” the 72-year-old Argentine told reporters on Tuesday.

Pekerman is one of the most experienced and respected coaches in the region, having played for clubs in Argentina, Chile and Mexico.
He also coached Argentina in the 2006 World Cup and led Colombia to the quarterfinals of the Brazil World Cup in 2014.
He will become Venezuela’s fourth coach since the start of the Qatar qualifiers after Rafael Dudamel, Jose Pesero and interim coach Rio Gonzalez.
FVF Chairman Jorge Gimenez said that Pekerman and Pekerman signed a five-year contract, which marked “a moment of transformation for our country’s football.”
