England women’s football coach Salina Wigman said that a 20-0 victory over Latvia in the Women’s World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday is not good for the development of the game and emphasized the need for competitive games.
England, ranked 8th in the world, scored the biggest competitive victory in history after 10 different players scored in a single game against Latvia, ranked 102nd.

“Of course, you want competitive games, and these are not competitive games,” Wigman said at a press conference.
“We want to develop developed countries and countries that are not so far away, so in every country you want to develop women’s games, but I think it’s not good to score so high. I know there are concerns about the federations-UEFA and FIFA . I think it’s good because I don’t think 20-0 is good for anyone’s development.”

England ranked among the best in Group D with a perfect record of 18 points in 6 games in the World Cup qualifiers. It has scored 53 goals and has not conceded.
Latvia did not score a point, conceded 46 goals and only scored two goals in five games.
The 2023 Women’s World Cup will be held in New Zealand and Australia.
