Rachin was born in Wellington to Indian parents Ravi Krishnamurthy and Deepa Krishnamurthy, both of whom moved from Bangalore in the 1990s.
Lachin made his New Zealand debut at the 2016 U-19 World Cup and the 2018 U-19 Cricket World Cup. During that time, he caught up with the coach of the Indian junior team Dravid for the first time.
