Shreyas Iyer will make his debut in the first test against New Zealand

Shreyas Iyer’s wait is over. The Mumbai batsman will make his debut here on Thursday against New Zealand.

The right-hander joined the test team for the first time in March 2017 and screened for Virat Kohli on the eve of the fourth test against Australia. Later that year, the right-hander completed his test. ODI debut (against New Zealand) and T20I debut (against Sri Lanka).

Shreyas won the red ball call after 22 ODIs, 23 T20Is and the Indian Super League in the Delhi capital. He averaged 52.18 points per game in top-notch cricket matches and ran 4,592 times in 54 games.

Interestingly, in the Iran Cup in February 2019, Shreyas represented other Indian national teams against Vidarbha in his last first-class match.

Confirming Shreyas’ test debut, substitute captain Ajinkya Rahane does not rule out another debut in Thursday’s XI. There may be a silver lining for Suryakumar Yadav.

Rahane said that KL Rahul’s absence was a “big blow” and went on to say, “He did very well in England. We will miss him. But we have people who can do the job.”
