The decision was the result of “increasing anxiety and concern” on the Dutch side. The United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union imposed travel bans and restrictions on flights from South Africa.

KNCB Chairman Jurgen Delfos said: “It must be clearly pointed out that these concerns are entirely about travel and how long the team can go home, and have nothing to do with the integrity of the biosafety environment successfully hosted by CSA.”
