As a boxing town, Las Vegas is the birthplace of some of the greatest victories in Mike Tyson’s legendary career. This is part of the reason why Tyson, now 55, uses Las Vegas as his home. This is why Sin City regards Tyson as the main figure in their culture and community.
The former heavyweight champion received the honor on Thursday night With the unveiling of a new statue Resorts World in Las Vegas. The statue is 10 feet tall and is located outside the Pizzeria on Mulberry Street.
Tyson is one of the most iconic boxers of all time. From 1987 to 1990, he has been the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
“Richie Palmer, the owner and founder of Mulberry Street Pizzeria, is an avid boxing fan. He believes that Tyson represents an important era in sports and Las Vegas,” reads the Mulberry Street Pizzeria press release. “He thinks Tyson deserves the honor of his own statue. This is something the Resorts World team agreed to, so they worked together to achieve this goal.”
Las Vegas is where some of Tyson’s most memorable moments in the boxing ring took place, including a notorious match in 1997 in which he was caught after biting off part of Ivand Holyfield’s ears. Disqualified from the competition.
Outside of Sin City, Tyson’s career as a boxer has been widely recognized. He has been elected to the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame.
