Regarding the difference between the successful IPL 2020 held in the UAE last year and the IPL 2021 held in India, Ganguly explained: “In the UAE last year, everything was limited to three venues and within a limited area. No air travel was involved. . Here, we have six different venues.
“You must also look at the situation across the country. The number of people affected every day is completely crazy. No one knows what will happen tomorrow. Things have lost everyone’s control.
“When we started the game in Dubai, there were nearly 700 cases in the UAE, and a few hundred more in later stages. Today, there are close to 400,000 cases here. The surge in Covid-19 cases has always been a major problem,” Ganguly further added.
The former Indian captain revealed that if IPL 2021 does not resume operations, BCCI will suffer a loss of approximately 25 billion rupees. “If we fail to complete the IPL, the loss will be close to 25 billion rupees. This is an early estimate.”
However, he refused to call the suspension of the game a setback. Ganguly thinks: “I won’t say this is a blow… Don’t forget that we didn’t have Wimbledon or the Olympics last year. When asked about the possible time limit for recovery, Ganguly said that it is still too early and a lot of logistical work is required.
