Before World Emoji Day on July 17, the Unicode Consortium, designed by Emojipedia, released multiple emojis including “pregnant women”.
According to Newsweek, “the draft of the new emoji list released by the Unicode Consortium, designed by Emojipedia, also shows gender-neutral options in its candidate list, such as “pregnant people” and “people wearing crowns”.
As part of Emoji 14.0, the final emoji won’t be approved until September. Once approved, the list will become effective at the end of 2021 and the first half of 2022.
Other upcoming emojis include, “A face holding back tears, a melted face, some corals, an empty nest and a nest with eggs, a mirror ball, low battery, an X-ray film, A heavy equal sign, a multicultural handshake, and a salute face.”
Some people on Twitter said, “They created this new emoji to represent’pregnant man’, but I only use it when I eat too much.”
Others said, “#pregnant has seen a lot of controversy, just want to say that trans men can get pregnant, and there are as many trans men as men born in the right body. Don’t be stupid, please. [heart emoji]. “
