Free agent cornerback Richard Sherman is currently being held in Seattle on charges of burglary and domestic violence and cannot be released on bail.
Public records show that Sherman was booked at the King County Correctional Facility around 6 o’clock this morning. ESPN report.
Records show that he was refused bail, but a spokesperson for the Redmond Police Department in Washington told ESPN that this is the standard procedure for suspects in domestic violence incidents until the judge can see their case.
The authorities stated that they received a 911 call from the residence at 2 am. The caller stated that an adult male family member who did not live in the residence tried to forcibly break into the residence.
When the police arrived, they found the suspect outside the house. He allegedly fought with the police, but was eventually arrested and taken to a local hospital for examination, but was cleared and then booked to the Jinxian Correctional Institution.
The spokesperson added that no one was injured in the residence. The 33-year-old Sherman completed his third season with the San Francisco 49ers in 2020 before becoming a free agent. Before playing in San Francisco, he spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Seattle Seahawks.
Sherman is also the Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the NFL Players Association.
“We learned that one of our player leaders was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence last night and launched our domestic violence crisis agreement to protect and support all relevant personnel. As more facts become available, we will continue to pay close attention Incident,” NFLPA said in a statement.
