(Reuters)-The British competition regulator said on Wednesday that it has approved AstraZeneca (NASDAQ:) to acquire US-based Alex Brothers (NASDAQ:) for US$39 billion. The company decided not to conduct a more extensive investigation of the transaction after the initial assessment.
The Competition and Markets Authority began reviewing whether planned acquisitions would reduce competition in the UK or other markets in May. Its customs clearance was obtained from Europe earlier this month.
