Research by this global non-profit organization found that, in the long run, hourly load matching strategies can help lay the foundation for a decarbonized grid. However, these strategies should be carefully tailored to the dynamics of the grid in a specific area to minimize emissions in the next decade.
“In order to take meaningful steps to decarbonize the grid, these procurement strategies must be aligned with science-based targets that reflect the need to decarbonize 50% by 2030,” said Mark Dyson, RMI principal.
