Have you ever thought of giving up life in a big city and settling down in a beautiful village, maybe in southern Italy, where it is warm almost all year round? If you think you are ready to trade in the life you are living, Italy is paying for people to move there.
The Calabria region plans to provide up to $33,000 in funding for up to three years to help people who are willing to relocate to idyllic villages with only 2,000 inhabitants, with a view to reversing the decline in population over the years CNN report.
These beautiful villages are close to the sea and/or mountainside. However, this money is problematic.
New residents must also commit to starting small businesses from scratch or by accepting existing offers from specific professionals that these towns want.
There are other requirements for this cash.
Applicants must live and be under 40 years of age. Applicants must also be prepared to relocate to Calabria within 90 days of successful application.
Officials hope that this proposal will attract proactive young people and millennials who are eager to work in their towns.
District Councillor Gianluca Gallo told CNN that monthly income for two to three years may be between US$900 and US$1,100. However, there may be one-time funds to support the start-up of new commercial businesses, such as bed and breakfast, restaurants, bars or shops.
“We are improving the technical details, the exact monthly amount and period of funds, and whether it also includes larger villages with up to 3,000 residents,” Gallo told CNN. “So far, we have received great interest from the village, and hope that if the first plan works, more people may follow up in the next few years.”
