The boxing duel between social media influencer Jack Paul and former UFC welterweight champion Tyronn Woodley finally has a date. The two will meet on a pay-per-view show on Showtime on Sunday, August 29. The two will meet at a weight of 190 pounds.
The event will be held at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, starting at 8pm Eastern Time. Paul vs. Woodley ended an important weekend of Showtime Boxing, with David Benavidez battling Jose Uz Catergui the night before.
Woodley will make his debut in a professional boxing match. He won the UFC Welterweight Championship in July 2016 and managed to keep his belt in the next five games. After a four-game losing streak, Woodley and the promotion parted ways, and his UFC game ended in an ugly way.
Paul brought the controversy from YouTube to the boxing ring and played three matches on the big stage, attracting attention with every step he took. After making his debut as a professional player and beating YouTube user AnEsonGib, Paul then went viral and eliminated his predecessor. NBA Star Nate Robinson before the recent elimination of former UFC boxer Ben Askeron. His career has drawn criticism and calls to face a more dangerous opponent. Woodley seems to be such an opponent. He has a background as a professional boxer, but has more amazing skills than Askeron.
“I am a mature man,” Woodley said in a press release. “I don’t play games with kids. They bring me in to take out the garbage. You’re welcome!”
