Egyptian President Abdul Fatah Al-Sisi and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince MBZ attended the opening ceremony.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has opened a strategic naval base in the Mediterranean to “protect the routes.”
The Egyptian Presidential Palace said in a statement on Saturday: “This is Egypt’s newest military base in the Mediterranean. It will focus on ensuring the security of the country’s northern and western fronts.”
Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan (MBZ) and Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council Mohamed Menfi attended the ceremony.
The base is located approximately 255 kilometers (160 miles) west of Alexandria, near the border with Libya, where Egypt and the United Arab Emirates both play key military roles.
Libya’s new transitional administration was born out of the UN process launched in Tunisia in November, and then comfirmed The Libyan Parliament passed on March 10.
Egypt and the United Arab Emirates are the main supporters of Khalifa Haftar, the military commander in eastern Libya, who tried to seize the capital of Tripoli from the previous government.
In April, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly traveled to Libya to have talks with Interim Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah, which is the warming up of relations between Cairo and Tripoli New signs.

The state-run newspaper Akhbar Al-Youm reported that the new Egyptian base includes an airstrip and a 1,000-meter (3,280-foot) long pier.
The base was named “July 3rd”, one day after Sisi led the military removal of President Mohammed Morsi eight years ago.
Egypt has three other naval bases in the Mediterranean and one in the Red Sea.
