TOKYO (Reuters)-A key “tanan” survey released by the Bank of Japan on Thursday showed that confidence in large Japanese manufacturers has risen for the fourth consecutive quarter as external demand rebounded to boost exports and profits.

The Tankan Business Survey closely followed by the Bank of Japan showed that the confidence index of large manufacturers rose to positive 14 from positive 5 in March.

The survey showed that sentiment among large non-manufacturers also improved for the second consecutive quarter.

The survey also shows that large companies plan to increase capital expenditures by 9.6% in the fiscal year ending March 2022.

This reading compared with the median market expectation, which increased by 7.2% after a 3% increase in March.
