The country’s military said that unidentified gunmen’s cross-border fire in Paktika Province in Afghanistan has killed at least two Pakistani soldiers. The country’s military once again called on Afghanistan to manage security on its border side.
The Pakistani military said in a statement on Wednesday that the Pakistani army’s military outpost in the North Waziristan area had been targeted and fired back.
A brief statement from Pakistan said: “Pakistan has been asking Afghanistan to ensure effective border control on their side.”
“Pakistan strongly condemns the continued use of Afghan land for terrorist activities against Pakistan.”
The incident repeated Pakistan’s allegations that the country’s forces were attacked by the Pakistani Taliban (TTP) and its allies, who were allegedly stationed in eastern Afghanistan.
Afghanistan did not immediately respond to the latest allegations, but denied that its government has allowed such groups to operate in Afghanistan in the past.
Afghanistan opposes the installation of fences on the 2,600-kilometer (1,615-mile) border between the two countries because of its dispute over its location.
Pakistan began unilaterally constructing fences on the border in March 2017 to control the movement of fighters from armed groups.
Part of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces continue to build barriers, which are usually made of wire fences with barbed wire.
