For a sport full of tradition and eccentricity, cricket will never disappoint. The grant-testing status is now riddled with inconsistencies and well-intentioned but misguided tilts towards diversity.
When England played against Australia in the first ever test match in 1877, this most elite sports club became invisible. Poms and the Australians joined a club that has not yet been established but has laid the foundation. South Africa joined in 1889 when they played against England in Port Elizabeth. The Empire Cricket Convention was established in 1909 and gradually evolved into the International Cricket Committee (ICC) that now manages the sport.
To say that the International Criminal Court has growing pains is an understatement that is almost biblical. The West Indies, New Zealand, and India received this honor in 1926 and received the honor in the first test of England. Pakistan was also accepted in 1952, but it will be the last country to receive test status in 30 years.
In the 1960s, non-testing countries emerged to obtain associate membership. By the 1970s, the number of members had grown steadily, and surprisingly included many countries outside the Commonwealth. During this period, the United States, the Netherlands, and Denmark all joined the International Criminal Court. But the testing status is still a distant award, carefully guarded by the pioneers of the House of Lords.
Sri Lanka was one of the first three associate members in 1964. They finally gained full testing status in 1982, but it should have been so long ago. The national team has existed since the 1880s and has played first-rate cricket since the 1920s. Sri Lanka regularly hosts tournaments and has performed well in the previous two World Cup matches. They narrowly lost to Australia in 1975 and won their first World Cup match against India four years later.
Sri Lanka was defeated by England in the first test, and it took three years to get the first test victory. However, they gradually got rid of the loser label and produced some truly iconic cricket players. Kumar Sangakkara posted a staggering 12,400 runs during his 15-year testing career, ranking sixth on the historical scoring list. Mahela Jayawardene is an inspiring captain who shared a record 3road The 624 wicket against South Africa in 2006. Unsurprisingly, his partner in crime was Sangakkara, who eventually left in 287. Jayawardene has 374 runs and the fourth highest personal test score ever.
The unparalleled Muttiah Muralitharan played 18 years of cricket testing and returned a number equal to his flawless doosra. Exactly 800 test wickets, an average of 22.75 and 22 games of 10 wickets. Such rare qualities and outstanding players will eventually be rewarded. Sri Lanka won the World Cup in 1996 and officially announced that they will become the main players in the world competition. Compared with the big guys, the 31.7% win rate in the test match easily gains a foothold. Sri Lanka has not just broken into the club’s door; they have applied for platinum membership.
After the restoration of South Africa International, Zimbabwe became the ninth recognized testing country in 1992. The early signs are not optimistic, as they have only won one victory in the first 30 test matches. Many people questioned whether Zimbabwe achieved testing status too soon. But they have an exciting group of players and they go beyond Also ran away Syndrome. Captain and goalkeeper Andy Flower was named the world’s top batsman and went on to get a record 4,794 trial runs. His brother Grant scored an undefeated 201 points in his first victory against Pakistan and compiled it in another five test centuries. Heath Streak is an excellent all-rounder, his 216 test wickets set a record; and the speed bowler Henry Olonga is the prodigy who became the youngest test player ever in Zimbabwe.
Sadly, the team’s prospects are undermined by the chaotic government and the growing influence of the Zimbabwe government. During the 2003 World Cup, the England team refused to play in Harare on the grounds of safety issues, and the situation escalated. Andy Flower and Henry Olonga wore black armbands to mourn the demise of democracy in Zimbabwe. They were removed from the team and later sought political asylum. As Zimbabwe’s testing status was suspended in 2005, most senior players retired or left the national team.
They were exiled from Test cricket for six years, and the damage caused in the 1990s is still obvious. As Brandon Taylor recovered to the side, there was a faint light. However, these numbers tell their own story: out of 113 test matches, Zimbabwe won 13 games, tied 28 games, and lost 70 games, with a winning percentage of 11.7%. They have never defeated England, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand or the West Indies. Zimbabwe was the most successful against Bangladesh. Bangladesh is the only test country with a significantly worse record.
As one of the youngest countries in the world, Bangladesh obtained a comprehensive test qualification in 2000.Cricket has been playing in the area since the end of 2018day In the century, then the East Pakistan Division hosted a test and a top-notch cricket match. However, this status was lost after gaining independence in 1971. The Bangladesh national team started when they played against MCC in Dhaka in the late 1970s. The precursor to complete state is the victory in the ICC trophy and their highly credible performance in winning two group matches in the 1993 World Cup. However, Bangladesh encountered difficulties in introducing the red ball game. They lost 10 of the first 11 test matches and it took five years to get their first victory against Zimbabwe.
This form may be due to tactical naivety and unfamiliarity with touring conditions; they will learn from experience and benefit from high-quality opposition. Unfortunately, statistics do not support this hypothesis, and if anything seems to be optimistic, it is hopeless. Bangladesh has conducted 123 tests, won 14 games, won 17 games, and lost 92 games, with a winning percentage of 11.4%. They achieved milestone victories over England, Australia and Sri Lanka; but their lonely nature had a certain fluke that wiped out achievements. The four victories in the West Indies also lack credibility. Especially because they seem to be an experimental country in the final recession. Bangladesh and Zimbabwe have signed a seemingly strange agreement. Seventeen games, seven victories and three draws each actually doubled their winning percentage. Maybe it’s more about the two weakest test countries being matched equally?
In addition to statistical data, there are some fundamental reasons for their slow progress. Four of the top five scorers are active players; their top three checkers have similar experience. This may be a sign of a stable team; but it is more likely to be a lack of real competition for places. Many players have also failed to conduct self-tests at the highest level of domestic cricket. For those who have, this is a strange and short experience. All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan scored a record 210 test wickets for Bangladesh with an average batting rate of nearly 40. The 12-month stay in Worcestershire was encouraging as he helped them advance. But other than that, he has been playing domestic cricket in the Indian subcontinent or the Caribbean. Opening batsman Tamim Iqbal scored a record 4,788 points, but he failed to impress during a season in Nottinghamshire.
Shakib and Tamim are rare examples of Bangladesh cricketers who have tried but failed in a more demanding county cricket atmosphere. Various factors are at work, but it will definitely harm the development of the country at the Test level. After 21 years, Bangladesh showed no real signs of breaking the cricket test basement. There are similarities between the Rugby League and Italy’s participation in the Six Nations League. Strangely, Italy joined the ranks of the rugby elite in the same year that Bangladesh qualified for the test. They never finish above 4day 16 times won the wooden spoon, in 9 World Cup matches, the Azzurri has never surpassed the billiards arena; does this sound familiar?
On June 22, 2017, two more countries won the final honors, but they still feel like small fish swimming in a killer whale pool. Cricket has a long history in England. Momentum is slowly taking shape, and domestic competitions won first-class status in 2017. Ireland has participated and lost 3 test matches so far; but they terrified England in 2019 and they were eliminated with 85 points. Although England won easily with 143 points, there are still promising signs of development for the competitors. Experienced Kevin O’Brien scored in Ireland’s first test century against Pakistan, and Tim Murta’s bowling average was 27. However, Ian Morgan, Ed Joyce and Boyd Rankin are outstanding Irish players, and they finally nailed their colors to the mast. The next generation of Irish cricketers will face the same difficult choices as they enter the test arena.
Afghanistan gained test status only four years after becoming an associate member of the International Criminal Court. Cricket has been played in Afghanistan for many years, but its management committee was only established in 1995. They have played six test matches against Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and Ireland, losing three games and winning three games. The combination of security restrictions and poor facilities prevented Afghanistan from playing home games in Afghanistan. Instead, “home” games are played in the UAE, Sri Lanka and India. Asghar Afghan is the leading scorer with an average score of 30 and the highest score is 106, while Rashid Khan is the leading bowler with 34 wickets.
Mighty oak trees may grow from little acorns, but Ireland and Afghanistan seem to despair beyond their depths. Bangladesh is still willing to deceive, and if Zimbabwe is not troubled by internal conflicts, it may break through like Sri Lanka. The leading test nations are not in a hurry to play the four newest members. They did not provide credible objections and lacked the commercial viability of a game against England or Australia.
If the standards are maintained, the diversification of test cricket is good; but the pendulum has changed from Closed store to Open the door. Players and teams are increasingly inclined to the short format of the game, and insufficiently equipped to test the purity of cricket.
