Many fans were shocked to see an exact copy of Kanye’s Yeezy Foam Runners being sold on Walmart’s website at a fraction of their usual price tag of $75. However, it didn’t take long for Ye and his legal team to file a major damages suit against Walmart.
New legal documents filed recently show that Kanye is suing Walmart for selling shoes after his initial request to remove the shoes from the website was ignored. The document also pointed out that the Yeezy brand lost hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue through the sale of counterfeit goods through Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart is further accused of trying to use Kanye’s reputation and popularity to profit from shoes.
As you will remember, this is not the first legal issue between Kanye West and Walmart. As early as April, Wal-Mart filed a formal complaint with the US Patent and Trademark Office, claiming that Kanye’s latest Yeezy logo was too similar to the logo normally associated with the company.
Wal-Mart stated in the complaint that the “false affiliation” between its brand logo and the Yeezy logo could “harm and harm” Wal-Mart and the “goodwill” associated with the retail giant.
