After the White House reviewed potential conflicts of interest, President Joe Biden’s brother James abandoned the UK’s clean energy projects.

James Biden established an investment vehicle in May with a British corporate lawyer and two Argentine businessmen. But a few weeks later, after the White House evaluated the strict new regulations introduced by the Joe Biden administration, he abandoned the plan. The company is now dormant.

James Biden (James Biden) and his wife Sara Jones Biden (Reed Smith) partner Peter Teare (Peter Teare) co-initiated the UK limited liability Partnership 2BT. Teare said that 2BT has established another tool, Shelbourne Partners, to “explore potential investment opportunities, especially in the field of clean energy.”

A few weeks after launching Shelbourne, after reviewing James Biden’s plan at the White House, Teal stated that the organization had abandoned the project.

The White House Office of Legal Counsel’s review of James Biden’s plan to conduct business in the United Kingdom is part of the ethical system introduced by the new US government, which aims to draw a line between the way President Biden handles his family’s financial interests and the way his predecessor Donald Trump Clear boundaries.

The new procedure means that President Biden’s family should first discuss potential business activities or transactions with their lawyers, and then notify the White House lawyers when needed. After the White House advises whether to proceed, family members will make the final decision. These rules are designed to ensure that the president’s family has no conflicts of interest in US government affairs.

A White House official said: “The president has adopted moral rules and standards for his government that exceed any other government in history, including standards for his relatives.”

James Biden could not be reached for comment.

The White House declined to comment on the exact timing of the review of James Biden’s planned UK business or its conclusions. It is understood that the ethics review of the White House legal counsel will take some time. The Financial Times contacted the White House on Friday to comment on James Biden’s UK business plan.

James Biden has invested in a series of business transactions in the United States, including a controversial attempt to acquire a hedge fund Paradigm in 2006 with his nephew Hunter. According to company house documents, 2BT is his first listing as a director in the UK.

In January of this year, Joe Biden told the news channel CNN that his family “will not participate in any business that is at a proper distance from the president and the government, or any business that is in conflict or appears to be in conflict with the president and the government.”

Shelbourne is jointly owned by 2BT and International Capital Investment, another by Argentine lawyer Ricardo Nicolás Mallo Huergo and former Argentine congressman, James Biden partner José Luis Manzano (José Luis Manzano) New LLP initiated. Huergo and Manzano are respectively the general counsel and president of Integra Capital, a private equity firm in Buenos Aires.

According to Huergo, the two Argentines and James Biden are “old friends.” Manzano served in the Argentine cabinet of President Carlos Menem and founded Grupo America, the country’s second largest media company. According to Spanish media reports, James Biden attended Manzano’s wedding in 2015.

The two Argentines have invested in traditional energy projects including oil and gas through Integra. Huergo told the Financial Times that the new business plans to provide funding for projects focused on the transition from fossil fuels to clean energy.
